The 29 cribbage board can make a great do it yourself project for your own pleasure or to give as a gift. Visit  Cribbage Board Templates FS (an Etsy store) for more information.

There have been many cribbage board makers who have manufactured a version of the 29 style cribbage board. The High Hand 29 cribbage board by Pacific Games made in the 1960’s-70’s was likely the most popular of the 29 shaped cribbage boards and its design still has great appeal today. This 29 cribbage board template pattern was designed to resemble this layout.

The 29 cribbage board is so popular because in cribbage a 29 point hand is the highest possible hand you can hold. The odds of getting a 29 hand during a game of cribbage are approximately 1 in 216,580.  You’ll have a better chance of getting a hole in one while golfing. Those odds are 1 in 12,500.

Mapping out the hole placement for any cribbage board project can be frustrating. The placement of pegging holes on a 29 cribbage board project can be more so. Your project will go more smoothly and you can save hours of frustration by using a downloadable, printable 29 board cribbage board template.

The annual family vacation, weekends at the cottage, holiday get-togethers, grandpas birthday… For many, cribbage is played only when family gatherings occur. This may be limiting to your enjoyment of the game, but it also allows for each interaction to become an experience to look forward to. A tradition.

As with many table games these days, the cribbage board is only dusted off when human interaction is inevitable. In actuality the simple presence of a cribbage board can spawn that interaction, but that’s for another post.

Cribbage is a game that can be played casually over a cup of coffee while sharing family stories, or it can be turned into a no holds barred family competition. A round robin tournament can be held with even a single board. If you really want to get things going have two or three boards ready for your next family function. Many bonds between parents and their children, nephews and nieces, grandfathers and granddaughters, and extended family alike have been forged over the cribbage board.

Where can I find cribbage boards for sale?

August 10, 2013 By cribbage boards for sale

Where can I find cribbage boards for sale?

Cribbage Boards can be found in many places, some are quite obvious, and then there are those that you may not have thought of. Regardless of where your favorite purveyor of cribbage boards resides, finding and collecting unique or antique cribbage boards can be a very satisfying hobby or pastime.  Article: Cribbage Board Collecting

Find Cribbage Boards Online:

Purchasing online is likely one of the best sources available for finding all types of cribbage boards;  whether you are looking for new, vintage, antique or simply a unique board.

You can generally find hundreds of listings for cribbage boards at online auction and sale sites such as Amazon Cribbage Boards and e-bay. One major benefit of searching online is that no matter what type of crib board you’re looking for, new or vintage, you will normally have a large selection to choose from.

At Auctions:

You can often compete for rare finds at land based auctions. Many of the truly good cribbage pieces are saved for public sales such as estate auctions and are a wonderful place to find cribbage items that would not get into the market otherwise.

Cribbage board collectors, like many collectors, do not like to let their prize possessions go. Fortunately their heirs do not always have the same infatuation with collecting and prefer to sell the collections for cash.

At  Thrift Shops:

If you take the time to look, you can find a hoard of lower priced cribbage boards at thrift shops. If you look often enough, you may even find a valuable gem that has found its way through to a bargain shelf. This may not be a collector’s paradise; however it is a good place to find an occasional board  or peg set on the cheap. The inexpensive boards are great for craft projects and competitions.

At Vintage and Antique Shops:

It is very likely that if you venture into any vintage or antique shop that you will find at least one cribbage board for sale. Antique store owners can also keep an eye out for you during their travels. Many antique store owners make a large portion of their livings by locating specific items for their regular customers. So if you have a specific type of cribbage board that you are looking for and can make it worth the business persons time to look. You should be able to find someone who is glad to put you on their list of people looking for Cribbage Boards for Sale.

At Yard Sales and Garage Sales

Frequenting garage sales and yard sales is  another way to find the occasional board. These sales may not turn up an abundance of crib boards, however you may be surprised at the unique cribbage board styles you can come across. Many home made or shop class projects eventually end up at mom’s yard sale. Another benefit to the odd board found at a yards sale or garage sale is you will generally pay close to nothing for your find.

No matter where you find cribbage boards for sale, welcome to the ranks of cribbage board collectors across the world.

How To Peg a Cribbage Run of 4, 2, 6, 3, 5, 2, 4, 3, A, A

July 24, 2012 By cribbage boards for sale

The question always comes up as to whether or not the cards have to be in order for you to legally peg a big a complicated run. Nothing in the rules states that the cards have to be in order so this example should clarify for some. This may be a once a decade run, but it shows the importance of keeping a close eye on the cards played and in knowing how to properly peg.

Player 1 -Plays the 4. (no score)
Player 2- Plays a 2, count is now six. (no score)
Player 1- Plays a 6, the count is now twelve. (no score)
Player 2- Plays a 3, the count is now fifteen. (player 2 pegs a fifteen 2)
Player 1- Plays a 5, the count is now twenty and a five card run is in play.(player 1 pegs 5 points)
Player 2- Plays a 2, the count is now twenty two and the run is broken. (no score)
Player 1- Plays a 4, the count is now 26 and a five card run is back in play. (player 1 pegs 5 points)
Player 2- Plays a 3, the count is now a twenty nine and we have a four card (player 2 pegs 4 points)
Player 1- Plays an Ace, the count is now thirty and we again have a five card run. (player 1 pegs 5 points)
Player 2- Plays an Ace, the count is thirty one for a pair an a thirty one.(Player 2 pegs 4 points)

So have you kept up? That’s a total of 3-five card runs for player one and 15 pegging points. For player 2 that’s an accumulation of 10 pegging points; a fifteen, a four card run, a pair and last card.

Ode To A Cribbage Board

June 30, 2012 By cribbage boards for sale

Here’s a rarity, for sure. This is a little ditty originally written as a forum post. Poem by: LennyS at BoardGameGeeks.com a forum dedicated to board games

Ode to a Cribbage Board

Fifteen two, Fifteen four,
Your elegance I so adore;
Fifteen six, and a pair is eight,
For a simple game you’re really great.

Fifteen two, Fifteen four,
I’ll play you once and then want more;
A double run of four for ten,
I think of how I knew you when.

Fifteen two, Fifteen four,
The board, the pegs – je suis amour!
Fifteen six and knobs is seven,
I think I’ve died and gone to heaven.

Fifteen two, Fifteen four,
I move the pegs to mark the score.
A flush for five, I’ve got the Zen;
Thirty one for two: I win again!

Cribbage Board Collecting

October 19, 2011 By cribbage boards for sale

Many Cribbage Board collectors will develop niche collections based on a variety of specific criteria, or you can begin your collection by  simply collecting any style of crib board or crib accessory you come across until you are able to narrow down your area of interest.

–Drueke Cribbage Boards
–Hardwood Cribbage Boards
–29 Cribbage Boards
–Unique Cribbage Boards

Some collections are based on geographic location; this could mean based on where the boards are found or where they were made. Whether it’s boards collected only from the U.S. or the U.K or it’s a collection of antique pegging slabs found in each city or country visited on a long trip. The basis of your collection can be very general, very unique or quite specific to you.

A few other common types of collections could include: antique cribbage boards, aluminum boards, collections that consist of small wooden folding boards, boards that can house the cards and pegs, and there are even collections that consist entirely of the stylized and wellknown, “29 Cribbage Game Board”.

Cribbage game board collecting can become very serious very quickly or it can remain an inexpensive pastime. An affordable way to begin your collection is to set a lower dollar amount as the most you will pay for a cribbage board or item for your collection and make a game of it by purchasing any board you come across at a sale, auction or thrift shop as long as it can be had at a certain price or below and once you have a certain number of boards in your collection you can then focus on trading selling and upgrading the items maintaining the same number of cribbage boards to display.

One of the wonderful things about crib board collecting is that the boards display so well. Most cribbage boards are of an easy to handle size and can be displayed on pedestals, easels, mounted on walls or shown in fine display cases. The last note on collecting cribbage boards is to remember it’s your collection and there is no right or wrong. Collect cribbage game boards, cards and pegs that you enjoy.  Author: Win Linder  ; Cribbage Amateur and Board Collecting Enhtusiast.

Cribbage Card Game Methods

January 25, 2011 By cribbage boards for sale

Cribbage Card Game Methods
By Karen Aquiar

While you are trying to enjoy any card game, you also need to find your lucky star and the same goes with your fortune in the game of cribbage. But if you learn and adopt the few simple methods and guidelines then you can greatly improve your chances of winning and getting fortunate at this game. Read the following methods to become a successful winner in the game of Cribbage.

Cribbage methods for Discarding to the Crib

Remember; as you hold the place of the dealer in the game, you must attempt to place two cards in the crib. If you take this smart step you are sure to increase your chances of scoring more in the game. Keeping pairs, runs and combinations adding fifteen in one’s hand or in the crib is often an attempt made with many worries. Other useful cards include:

Fives: As four out of every thirteen cards are worth 10, there is a better opportunity that a 5 in the crib will proceed to create 15s.

Sevens and eights: Not only total 15, but have a possibility of collecting a 6 or 9 to complete a run.

Sevens and aces: Expected to merge to 15.

Threes, sixes and nines: Likely to join to 15. Consecutive cards (i.e. A-2, 7-8, J-Q) have the knack to meet the beginner or other cards in the crib to complete a run.

Cribbage plan for Play

If you take the lead, begin the game with a 4 or lower card where you refute your rival the ability to score fifteen-two. This attempt makes you lucky to score fifteen-two on your next turn.

Lead from a pair: This play gives you a chance to score 6 points with a pair royal if your rival gains a pair.

Do not lead a five: It is expected the rival has a ten or face card (16 out of 52 cards count as 10: 10, J, Q and K) and can simply create 15 for two points.

Play suspiciously: Sometimes it’s good enough to leave behind a scoring chance in order to prevent your opponent from possibly meeting a big score with a run or a pair royal.

Hold low cards to the end: Holding low cards will give you a greater space to simply score 31. Play a card from a pair; if a rival meets the pair for two, the first player can gain a pair royal for six. Do not make the count 21 if at all possible. There are 16 cards, including 30.8% of the deck, with a value of 10, so making the count 21 gives a rival a good way to bring the operating tally to 31 and score two points.

Improving Your Cribbage Game

December 30, 2010 By cribbage boards for sale

By John Rosenberg
Cribbage can be a fun game once you get the hang of it. There are a few things that you can do to help you improve your cribbage game.

1. Lead your Opponent

Leading your opponent is a great way to earn a couple points. For example if you have 2 4s in your hand you can put down one of the 4s. If your opponent has a 4 as well they will put it down and score 2 points by having a pair.

Then you can put down your 4 and score 6 points by getting 3 in a row. Leading doesn’t always work, but when it does it can be a very good thing, and make you feel smart too.

2. Discard High Cards in the Crib

When you discard to the crib discard your high cards, you want to be playing with mostly low cards if you can. Playing with high cards works against you because you cannot lay down more than 31 points on each round.

So, if you have a hand full of nothing but 10 point cards you will probably only be able to put down 2 cards before you have to stop and let your opponent finish it off.

Remember you get points for being the last person to play a card and the lower your cards are the more likely that will be you.

3. Keep Aces

Aces count as 1 point so they work in your favor in two ways. Chances are if you save it you will be able to use it as a last card. Also your opponent might make the score 30 thinking that they will get points for last card. That would help you put the Ace down and score 31 which would give you a bonus.

4. Don’t Open with a 5

If you open with a 5 chances are your opponent will have a 10 point card play it and get 15, which would give them extra points. There are a lot of 10 point cards in the deck, so it is better to assume your opponent has one.

Displaying Your Cribbage Board Collection

December 28, 2010 By cribbage boards for sale

Five Easy Ways To Display Your Cribbage Boards

1- Hang them on a wall as a centerpiece. Let’s say you have at least ten or so boards and you would like to find an attractive yet out of the way to display them, you can make a grouping out of them by hanging them on the wall. You probably don’t want to damage your boards by nailing through them so you may have to fashion hangers or brackets or try something like plate hangers to mount the boards. A grouping of Cribbage Boards can be quite colorful.

2- Display the cribbage boards on shelves using plate easels to support them upright. You can find many fashionable and easy to mount shelves available online or at your local home store or you can save a shelf or two out of a bookcase to display your favorite crib boards.

3- A small glass case makes a wonderful display for each of your choice cribbage boards, or you can display a larger glass case on a sofa table and show several of your best boards.

4- If you have dozens of inexpensive cribbage boards you can mount them directly to the wall and use them as a boarder or chair rail in your family room, game room, or recreation room. Cheap Cribbage Boards

5- Set a few boards out as knick knacks on a coffee table, end table or mantle where they can be easily seen by everyone and are ready for use.  After all the easiest way to show off your cribbage board collection is to use it.

The cribbage Polka from Wisconsin
What a fun song. This musical artist (anyone catch his name?) and obvious cribbage enthusiast has quite possibly given us a new anthem for cribbage lovers everywhere.

It may be a stereotype, but you could only expect this creative blend of cribbage and Polka from a place like Wisconsin, where the long winters give a man plenty of time to play cribbage and ponder the wonders of the world.
